Piperonyl Butoxide (PBO)

Product overview
Piperonyl Butoxide (PBO) is a synergist used in combination with a wide range of pesticides (such as carbamates, pyrethrins, pyrethroids, etc.). PBO not only markedly improves the control efficacy of pesticides but also extends their residual activity. PBO is widely used in agriculture, household hygiene and stored-product protection.

Chemical name: 5-[[2-(2-Butoxyethoxy)ethoxy]methyl]-6-propyl-1,3-benzodioxole
CAS No.: 51-03-6

Mode of action
PBO has no significant insecticidal activity by itself. It inhibits detoxification enzymes in insects, such as mixed-function oxidases (cytochrome P450) and esterases, delaying the metabolic breakdown of the co-applied pesticide. This markedly boosts the insecticidal efficacy of the combined pesticide and extends its residual effect.

Applications & benefits
1. Markedly improves insecticide efficacy (synergism factor typically 2-10×);
2. Delays the development of pest resistance to pesticides;
3. Extends residual activity and reduces the number of applications;
4. Lowers the required dose of active ingredient, reducing environmental and crop residue risks;
5. Widely applicable to household hygiene, grain storage, horticulture and field agriculture.
